This collection guide offers information and links to teaching resources, including an Erwin E. Smith Teaching Guide. The teaching guide is designed for use with fourth through seventh grade students and places particular emphasis on social studies and Texas history. Activities are adaptable for interdisciplinary classes and other grade levels as well. Lesson plans and classroom activities provide teachers with historical and biographical background on Smith, cowboy culture, and the West.

A glossary and bibliography are also available in this section. The glossary helps to define terms in both the titles and descriptions of Smith’s photographs. The bibliography offers resources ranging from historical accounts of cowboy terminology to modern day cowboy life; it also lists books featuring the photography of Erwin E. Smith.
